This Day in History: 1860-10-01

A Proclamation was issued by the Governor Arthur Edward Kennedy that a new Town was established in the Avon District and was to be called the town of Newcastle.

Newcastle was named after the Secretary of State for the Colonies, Henry Pelham-Clinton, Lord Lincoln and Duke of Newcastle.
