This Day in History: 1851-08-21
After a difficult crossing over the ford to the right bank of the swollen Avon River, the forty ticket-of-leave men made the half mile journey upstream to the first Toodyay Convict Hiring Depot site on Lots 69 and R1 in old Toodyay. Locals William Palmer and Thomas Whitfield assisted with the crossing.
