A census was taken in Western Australia. The total population was 4,622 people (colonists) (2,818 males and 1,804 females) and an estimated 1,960 Noongar people. Statistics for the Toodyay District were: 365 people (258 males and 107 females). The estimated Noongar population of the Toodyay District was 300 people, with 105 persons (52 males and 53 females) casually and regularly employed by the colonists.
