From the Introduction by the compiler:
“It has been a few years since an edition of one of these ‘Long Chronos’ was published. Part 3 (1951-1980) was launched in December 2011, so almost seven years have passed So, time for another. Part 4 of the Chronology covers 20 years of Toodyay’s more recent history (1981-2000). There are many Toodyay residents still alive who witnessed these events.
I have called this a ‘Preliminary Reference’ edition, because time constraints have restricted the number of entries (just over 220) that could be selected and prepared for inclusion in a release on 25 November 2018 (my chosen date). My reasoning for a presenting such a small edition is that ‘something is better than nothing’. Events in the eighties and nineties are starting to become less easy to remember, so this ready reference aid will be useful.
A new element in this edition is the inclusion of entries for the major annual events in Toodyay, rather than just the first and last occurrences, or major changes to an event. In this way the date and details and place are captured, to make it easier to refer to these events accurately. So, the annual Toodyay Show, local government election, Moondyne Festival, Folk Festival and Avon Descent have been included, where detailed information (such as the date, for starters) can be found. More names have been included in these longer entries.”
